New River and Lost Lake, Saturday July 10

New River and Lost Lake, Saturday July 10

Hike Registration Form

New River ACEC (Area of Critical Environmental Concern) has something to offer at all times of year. There are 8 trails through this BLM park along with a nature center and picnic tables.

The river itself IS pretty new, having formed during a storm in 1890 as a river running parallel to the Pacific Coast, just over the foredune. The river is just one of the attractions of the park. You’ll see an old Cranberry bog (one of the oldest on the coast), huge ancient Manzanitas (on the North and Ridge Trail), many varieties of ferns, berries, and lots more.

There will be time to eat a lunch at the picnic tables at the Nature Center, or you might want to eat at the Lost Lake Trailhead. That will be decided on the day of the hike.

You might see this on the hike

Lost Lake

After the hike at New River, you will head North on the Coast Highway to a road to access the Lost Lake trail. This trail would also normally take you to the New River, but part of the trail is now overgrown with gorse. Nevertheless, there are great views of the lake.

Hike requires registration: Register Here
